Blue Ox Forestry, Inc is a descendent of a company that was started in 1929 in Marion, Alabama. Mr. H. C. Moore was one of two wood suppliers for the old Gulf States Paper Company pulp mill in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He and his son Douglas Moore formed H.C. Moore & Son in the early 1960’s. It was incorporated in 1985 after the death of Douglas Moore. Steen Traylor became a co-owner and the General Manager in 1988 and purchased the company in 2000 changing the name to Blue Ox Forestry in 2001. The Company has timber buyers and forest managers in central and west Alabama.

Steen Traylor was born February 6, 1949, in Selma, Alabama, as the third of five brothers and one sister. Grew up on a farm and attended Selma city schools. Steen married Carolyn Prescott on June 14, 1969. She actively manages the accounting function of the forestry business. They attend Elkdale Baptist Church in Selma currently serving as Chairman on the Board of Deacons. Steen is a Registered Forester in Alabama (#913) and Mississippi (#2408). He has a BS degree in Forestry from Auburn University and a Masters degree in Forestry from Duke University.

Work experience includes:

MacMillan Bloedel, Inc. (1973-1982)

Responsibilities included evaluating, planning, and scheduling of wood procurement, harvesting, and transportation activities; development of annual budgets and monitoring of wood supply functions; primary responsibility for strategic planning and resource analysis for facility expansion; designed and coded computer systems for rolling stock maintenance, wood cost reporting, and automated wood scaling; and developed an on line data base inventory system for the wood resource.

Hammermill Paper Company (1982 – 1987)

Managerial responsibilities for Data Processing, Forest Research, Tree Improvement, Seed Orchards, Forest Inventory, Timber Growth Modeling, and computer systems design/development.

International Paper Company (1987 – 1988)

Assisted in the transition of people and systems from Hammermill Paper to IP. Install and maintained computer scaling systems in the IP facilities in Alabama and Mississippi.

H. C. Moore & Son, Inc. (1988 – 2000)

General Manager and part owner of the company that supplied up to 500,000 tons per year of wood to the major wood using mills in central Alabama.
